Changing Environmental Factors of Conflicts

The connection between environment and politics is known for a very long time. But recently it has altered its nature. For the first time, on such a large scale, it has been turned note of possibility of changing environmental factors of conflicts.

There are a few reasons for that situation.

First of all, proceeding degradation of the environment has altered its role in people’s life. Societies have felt stronger the environmental restrictions which has been caused by worsening resource shortage. Moreover, the population increase also adds to scarcities of renewable resources so the tensions and conflicts are rising.

Although the term ‘Changing environmental factors of conflicts’ is not anything new nowadays there are still plenty of misinterpretations. There is a common trend to understand the relationship between environment and violent conflicts as the matter of struggle for limited natural resources, mainly non-renewable resources.

In connection with that, some complexities with classification of environmental origins of conflicts should be taken into account. First of all, changing environmental factors of conflicts are interconnected with other causes in most cases. Moreover, conflicts originated by environmental factors usually do not manifest directly their environmental origin.

In spite of it, environmental scarceness is already contributing to violent conflicts in many parts of the under-developed world. Some parts of that area have already grave troubles which are consequences of shortages of water, forests and fertile land.

Summing up, although the changing environmental factors of conflicts are not common nowadays, they are already the fact in the modern world. Environmental scarcity can itself be a significant force leading to tensions and clashes. Scarceness founded influential segments in society to boost in their own favor the discrimination in the distribution of resources.

Besides, ecosystem’s defenselessness often adds to environmental scarcity. Even if causes of the deprivation are eradicated, the pitiable state of natural environment will still affect the society.
