Democratic Influence in Conflicts

Conflicts always occur when there is a difference of opinion. This difference worsens and leads to occurrence of conflicts. Every conflict, when resolved has a democratic influence attached to it.

This democratic influence in conflicts is unavoidable and inevitable to resolve them.

Democracy matters for human security because elegant and comprehensive political institutions and processes are the key to both preventing brutality and managing conflict constructively, and because esteem for human rights and public contribution are essential for meeting human growth objectives.

Democratic influence in conflicts involves a political process directly related to the individual security needs of entire populations, to progress goals and to the nonviolent management of conflict. The concept of human security highlights the safety of people from serious threats to their lives, protection from harmful and violent conflicts, and empowerment against such social intimidations as disease or crime.

Violent conflicts may have their genesis in human insecurity: insecurity is linked to elimination and lack of access to resources and power.

Sources of insecurity lie in exclusion and lack of access to power and resources. Social conflicts occur when governance practices fail to handle conflict effectively through genuine political dialogue, means for lawful decision making, and the rule of law.

Democratic influence in conflicts links the empowerment of people to decisive developmental effects such as education, health care, and opportunities for living. Democracy facilitates the safety of people through institutional safeguards, impartiality before the law, and the development of human rights.

Democratic influence in conflicts creates a bridge between people and their governments: giving influence to ‘root causes’ and injustices in a way which helps to deal with them will in turn contribute to the more effective recognition of human progress and human security. It is also a mechanism for enhanced regional cooperation.

Local organizations have a progressively stronger role to play in supporting with conflict alleviation and economic growth.
