Gender, Sex-Roles, Age and Social Class

Recently organizations have been observed to acquire certain dimensional changes that have been brought about by alteration of culture, gender balance, sex-roles, age and social class in the society. The transformation should cause the organization to strategically adjust to these changes so as to remain relevant and ultimately achieve their goals and objectives.

Culture is a way of life and therefore employees can integrate their social cultures into the organization and that will ultimately influence the organization’s operations. Organizational culture should be balanced to accommodate external personal beliefs and at the same time prioritizing the organization’s tasks and objectives.

Gender in organizations is taking an equality aspect and more women are being seen entering the job market and leaving the home setup. This will ultimately alter the dynamics of the organization as gender disparity is becoming a thing of the past. Sex-roles are changing as families are taking a single parenthood perspective that has made women become breadwinners by choice and circumstances. Women are actively taking up more challenging office leadership roles like their male counterparts. This will alter or even better the organization’s policies that can positively redirect the organization’s focus.

Many people are now getting into the job market at ages, which were traditionally perceived as not old enough. This has been attributed to early schooling and timely acquisition of relevant competencies. More and more young people are now being seen holding senior managerial positions in organizations and this has brought novelty in the way policies are formulated and executed. The young executives are crossing normal organizational boundaries and taking unique task-accomplishing channels.

Social class in the society is also having influence on organizations as employees are constantly looking for ways to upgrade in their social status. This has in turn made them aware of their working rights and can engage the organizations in re-negotiations whenever they feel their working conditions and organizational liberties are infringed. Organizations must therefore strategically position themselves to address these emerging issues.
