Managing Social Conflicts


As long as people are interacting seeking a common goal conflict will never stop to exist. Different conflict may arise

between family members, friends and the community that can lead to a long lasting enmity if not managed.

conflict can be as a result of disagreement on views from authorities, interpersonal relationship or individuals and groups using conflict as a strategy to accomplish their goals. Whether a conflict can be completely resolved or not, we need to change it from negative force to positive Force. If conflict is not managed, it will hinder growth in all aspect of life.

There are several methods we can use to manage  conflict. We can choose to avoid, conquer, use technical methods to try and bring reconciliation or comprise.  Avoiding conflict sometimes brings hostility that might cause a bigger problem in the future. The first step is to accept that  conflict has occurred.

Examine the situation and get to understand the cause of the conflict. It is also important to study the behavior of members or individual involved. A brief history of the conflict  can  help especially if it had happened earlier and was resolved.

Smooth the progress of communication by creating a free discussion with the involved parties. Ask questions and listen keenly without judgments and interruptions. One might be tempted to offer quick solutions or take sides but it is important not to be carried away by emotions. Tactful saves face and do not cause embarrassment.

Facts and information can be useful as this help one stay on the topic rather than the people. If they are encouraged to give feedback, then this will open room for negotiations.
If the negotiation fails, then one can choose to make necessary changes so as to fit or learn how to continue living with the conflict since not all conflicts can be solved.
