A psychoanalytic Method the Other Way Round

A method ‘the other way round’ means that it is not different to normal thinking that adheres to conversation, but has completely different punctuation. Period, comma, dash characters, everything is set differently. And through what? Exactly through the intervention of formula words. They are phrased as in normal speech, but have by means of overdetermination no definite meaning.

While conventional meditation or yoga, and also classical psychoanalysis, only uses different, but, just the same, normal thinking that adheres to language for intervention, it is Analytic Psychocatharsis that applies normal thinking but with intervention through pure formula-like constructs. This is something completely different than Surat Shabd Yoga, even if it seems similar. Following, I will be explaining this still further.

In order to begin to master a comparative study such as this one, it is necessary for us to choose a language, which is equally appropriate to Indian as well as to occidental beliefs. Though Indian traditions may appear to us as being very strange, imagine on the other hand, how intellectual thinking and technocratic approach of the western world would strike most Indians. Even though there may be general truth mostly valid for everyone in the same way, a truth cannot be stated absolutely.

The Other, to whom I believe to be speaking the truth, needs to be included within it with all of his specific characteristics; otherwise it would just fail validity for him. If we nowadays have a ‘clash of cultures’, as is stated by the historian P. Huntington, then due to statements being made by one person who excludes the other person in the statement content.1 Nevertheless, it is just the differences in the two half-truths – such as those of the eastern and western worlds – which pose opportunities to learn. Actually, in finding such a language, one that attempts to bring both half-says together in one formulation, our inclination can be towards psychoanalysis, though we would be required to arrange for substantial modifications of both.

As stated above, I will name this talk in its most pointed form: FORMULA WORDS. They are formulations that have multiple meanings and due to that, no longer have an immediate sense. Their sense is only expressed at the border of linguistics (border of the faculty of speech, or of inhibited speech), which out rightly forces the subject to find a sense through his own linguistic capabilities. However, as I will go further to explain later on, a sense is found in a practical exercise much the same as in Surat Shabd Yoga.

1 On the other hand, speaking of a clash of ‘non-cultures’ might rather be more correct, especially in regard to what is happening between America and fundamentalist Islam.
