Requests from Subordinates
Requests from subordinates may come from staff who directly report to the individual as a manager. Requests from subordinates can also come in the form of requests from interns, low level contractual employees and those at a lower level in the social or organizational hierarchy. Requests from subordinates tend to be given a lower priority than those of peers and subordinates, due to the individual’s place in the hierarchy. Newly hired peers may also be treated as subordinates because they are still being trained and thus deemed inferior to familiar peers.
Private Requests
Private requests are requests outside the workplace structure. Private requests are those made based upon social ties or outside hierarchies. Private requests range from collection requests for a non-profit cause to demands for gossip from the local know-it-all. Private requests can include coffee clubs, birthday parties, inside information and hiring tips. Private requests are given a lower priority in the workplace than those made by superiors but may be prioritized above those by subordinates.
