Time Structuring and Perception I

Transactional analysis is a very powerful tool for self-coaching. In understanding oneself and modifying one's behavior, awareness and vigilance.

Awareness means that one should understand and be able to recognize patterns of behavior with predetermined endings, in order to be able to take avoiding action, if necessary.

Vigilance means that one should be constantly on the lookout for these behaviors, as they arise frequently. One does not always need to take action every time, but it helps to have an adult (objective) understanding of the behavior, even if one just accedes to them. However, many behaviors are toxic, and these demand corrective action. Even if one cannot think of immediate corrective action, an understanding of the mechanism will permit a response to be found on reflection.

It can be very difficult to implement any such avoidant response in practice, because these behaviors are often highly ritualized and driven by very deep-seated needs. But after the first time it becomes easier and easier. One may find other feelings, even panic; as one leaves a tried path (comfort zone) and these feelings give a clue to underlying emotions.

It may be useful to mention that today there are several tools available for dealing with deep-seated, sub-conscious beliefs – in other words, directly communicating in a meaningful way with the subconscious and addressing issues arising from belief system (aka “life scripts’). Hypnosis is one of them, and here the Silva mind power method is perhaps the best known. These beliefs seem to cause what are called blockages in the energy system or meridians.

These blockages can be dealt with using the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). A technique which derives from EFT is called Be Set Free Fast (BSFF) developed by psychiatrist Dr Larry Nims and also available for free download (from Nims/Sotkin).
